FOOD
SHORTAGES FACED NEXT YEAR
WFA Ups Acreage
Goals over This Year
WASHINGTON,
D.C.—Dr. William C. Ockey, chief of the Civilian Food Requirements branch of
the Office of Distribution announced yesterday the food goals for 1945 will be
set as high as they have been this year. America saw its greatest output of
agricultural products in history in 1944. Administrator Marvin Jones of the War
Food Administration (WFA) has set the total food and fiber crop acreage goal at
some four million acres more than was harvested in 1944. This goal is eight
million acres below the 1944 goal, which demonstrates a shortfall of twelve
million acres this year. However, due to unusually high output this year,
production is expected to be lower next year even with increased acreage.
