GIFTS IN THE BOMB BAY
Santa Delivers Yule Gifts to Troops
SAN DIEGO, CALIF.—While homes around America are putting the last-minute touches on Christmas decorations, Santa Claus is making his way across the ocean. This year, the sleigh old St. Nick will be flying—at least in the South Pacific—is a B-24 Liberator. His bomber was loaded in San Diego with thousands of gifts, Christmas trees, and decorations for the fighting forces in the Pacific theater. Loading was courtesy of Convair’s maintenance department, the United Service Organization (USO), the Office of Price Administration (OPA), and the Red Cross. The Convair maintenance department raised the money to purchase the items. Gifts include hard-to-get items such as needles, pins, and scissors.
