DETROIT WAR FACTORY STRIKES
Union Claims Interference
DETROIT, Mich.—Weapons production was halted last night as approximately seven thousand workers at a half-dozen war factories struck. The affected plants manufacture critical components needed by other war industries, the net result being a nearly complete stoppage of war production across Detroit. Among the various war matérial that would be affected by stoppage of production include tanks and battleships. The shutdown is the result of claims made by unions of interference in their operations by another union. The striking workers are members of Mechanical Educational Society of America. They claim members of the United Automobile Workers-CIO have interfered with the organizational activities of the MESA. Speculation is the strike may spread to some forty-seven factories in Cleveland and Toledo.
