FDR DERIDES FAKE STORIES
Calls Capital Rumors R-O-T
WASHINGTON, D.C.—President Franklin D. Roosevelt at a press conference yesterday tersely referred to the capital as a rumor factory originating more lies than anywhere across the country. The president’s ire was in response to a reporter’s question regarding a report the Secretary of the Navy Frank Knox has not fully disclosed the losses in the attack on Pearl Harbor following his personal investigation of the extent of the damage. FDR specifically said the alleged report was rot, spelling it out r-o-t to emphasize his point. The president went on to challenge the newsman if he wanted all military information to be released and publicized.
