NEWSPAPER DELIVERY LIMITED
ODT Orders Once Daily Only
WASHINGTON, D.C.—An official from the Office of Defense Transportation (ODT) yesterday explain the April 20 order restricting delivery of newspapers to dealers to once daily per dealer. The order applies to all commercial and governmental agencies using “any rubber-tired vehicle propelled or drawn by mechanical power or horses.” It will go into effect May 15 and is intended to conserver rubber as well as equipment, supplies, and other materials. The order eliminates special trips and reduces local trucking mileage. Common practice currently is to deliver each edition to distributors, which may involve many trips daily. The order may extend to other delivery services, such as dairies and grocers. Rural route deliveries by automobile may also be curtailed.
