NAZIS EXECUTE AMERICAN WOMEN
Other Americans Repatriated
JERSEY CITY, N.J.—Among nine hundred Americans repatriated here yesterday aboard the Swedish liner Drottningholm was Ruth Mitchell. She is the sister of late Brigadier General Billy Mitchell. Miss Mitchell endured fourteen months in several Nazi concentration camps after her capture as a member of the Chetnik guerillas in Yugoslavia, the first foreigner accepted into that organization. She related stories of women friends, both American and British, meeting their deaths in front of firing squads in the camps. She urged increased bombing raids against the Nazis, stating they “can’t take” such tactics. Her brother was one of America’s earliest advocates for strong air power. A diplomatic agreement allowed Miss Mitchell and the other passengers to be repatriated via Lisbon, Portugal.
