SHIP LOSSES EXCEED OUTPUT
Most Sinkings Last Week
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Office of War Information (OWI) last night released a statement stating the War Shipping Administration (WSA) has reported loss of allied shipping is outpacing replacements. According to the WSA, “while construction in American shipyards is breaking all records, sinkings of United Nations ships through enemy action and marine casualties have greatly exceeded new construction.” The WSA stated cargo space in vessels must be restricted to only war-essential products. The Department of the Navy, meanwhile, also reported losses during the week of July 12 were the greatest since the attack on Pearl Harbor. The total losses of merchant and cargo vessels in the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico has reached 400.
