FATHERS TO BE DRAFTED
Beginning Around May This Year
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Unnamed governmental official said yesterday that fathers will no longer be exempt from the draft beginning on May 1 of this year. The same unnamed source also said draft boards are having difficulty meeting induction quotas from single men and married men who have no children. This condition will necessitate the induction of fathers. To this point, fathers have been exempt from the draft except those who became fathers after December 8, 1941. This exemption was outlined in an order issued August 29 last by Major General Lewis B. Hershey, director of selective service. This order must be rescinded or altered before induction of fathers as standard practice may begin.
