BEEF RATION CUT
Heavy Military Use the Cause

WASHINGTON D.C.—The Office of Price Administration (OPA) is preparing its monthly revision of point values for red ration stamps, and sources suggest an expected slash in the beef ration. Point values are expected to increase by one or two points per pound, depending on the cut of beef, which means red coupons will purchase less meat. Several factors have lead to speculation that large purchases of beef for military uses has dramatically decreased supply. One of these factors is the recent wavier of governmental discounts on meat purchases, which indicates the orders have been of such size that they would be hard to fulfill at the discounted price. The June list of point values is expected to be released this week. However, the cut in beef ration will have little affect in many areas as beef has been in short supply there for some time.
