RUBBER WORK RESUMES
Unauthorized Strike Ends Last Night
AKRON, O.—Production at the General Tire and Rubber Company resumed last night with the 10 p.m. shift, Eastern War Time (EWT). This ended the stoppage in production of both military and civilian tires at that plant. The strike began four days ago when workers walked off their jobs Wednesday, according to local union president E.B. Harper, in protest of the firing of six workers by General Tire. Harper characterized the strike as unauthorized and stated the executive board of the union local informed the striking workers the dispute would be pursued, but only if the workers returned to their jobs. The union workers are members of the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO).
