LOWER COST OF LIVING
OPA Announces Price Reductions
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Chester Bowles, chief of the Office of Price Administration (OPA), spoke of a program of sweeping price reductions at a press conference today. The program is intended to reduce the cost of living by 2.3 per cent. A key to the program is governmental subsidies for transportation and crops, the proposed totaling $100,000,000.  The official announcement of the program is expected soon, and Bowles stated the effects of the program should be felt as early as October or November. The program is the result of a coordinated effort of the War Food Administration (WFA) and the Office of Economic Stability (OES).
