CUBA AND U.S.A. SIGN MILITARY PACT
Air Base Near Havana
HAVANA, Cuba—The United States and Cuba signed a military pact at 6:25 Easter War Time yesterday. The agreement, in part, provides for an air base near Havana for the training of American and British fliers. The base will also be central for antisubmarine duty in the area. In announcing the agreement, the Cuban state department stated it acted as a “…co-belligerent ally and has taken another step in its close collaboration in the joint war effort against the axis nations.” The United States State Department stated “…work on these installations will begin at once.” Once victory is achieved, the facilities will become a training facility for the Cuban air force.
