AUTO RACING A WAR CASUALTY!
Move Ordered To Save Rubber
WASHINGTON, D.C.—All motor vehicle racing events will be banned effective July 10. The announcement was made yesterday by the Office of Defense Transportation (ODT) in a move is intended to conserve rubber. The ban is a follow-up to the action last year by the American Automobile Association (AAA). February last, the AAA cancelled all races it governs, the iconic Memorial Day race at the brickyard in Indianapolis among them. However, races not regulated by the AAA have continued, which includes motorcycle and midget-car races as well as races involving larger cars. According to the ODT, approximately one thousand midget cars and five hundred larger cars have remained in race service since the AAA cancelled its races.
