TANKS SABOTAGED!
Shipment in California Hit
OAKLAND, Calif.—Army intelligence was informed yesterday that a large shipment of tanks was tampered with while unguarded on a railroad siding here. As many as thirty-five tanks in the shipment had their hatch seals broken and were entered. Locals reported a group of suspicious men had been seen near the tanks, but the men were gone by the time police arrived. The shipment was not on the siding for long before the suspicious men were sighted. The Army has stationed guards at the siding and is investigating why there were no guards previously protecting the shipment. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has joined the Army and state and local police in the investigation into the incident. Many of the details surrounding the shipment are being withheld, including the total number of tanks in the shipment and its destination.
