NIELS BOHR ESCAPES NAZIS
Nobel Winner with Allies
LONDON, England—Danish sources reported here yesterday that Danish Nobel Prize winning physicist Niels Bohr has escaped the Nazis and is in Allied hands. Nazis had announced that Jews in Denmark would be arrested and transported to Germany. Niels and his brother Harald are considered Jews by the Nazis since their mother was Jewish. On September 29, Danish resistance learned the bothers and their families were to be arrested. The resistance smuggled the Bohrs out of Denmark, arriving in Sweden on September 30. From there, Niels and his son were evacuated to Britain in October. Bohr received the 1922 Nobel Prize in physics.
