TOOTHPASTE TUBES MUST BE RETURNED
Also Shaving Cream Tubes
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The War Production Board (WPB) yesterday issued an order requiring the return of a collapsible tin tube for each new tube of toothpaste or shaving cream. Merchants are prohibited from selling any new tubes to customers without the one-to-one exchange. Responsibility for enforcing the order falls on merchants. Those who violate this order could face fines of $10,000 and imprisonment for one year. The new policy came without warning and was effective immediately. The WPB also called for drastic reduction in the production of collapsible tin tubes. Use of such tubes is also prohibited for foods and cosmetics.
