CLARK GABLE ENLISTS
Joins Army Air Forces as Private
LOS ANGELES, Calif.—Popular star of the silver screen Clark Gable enlisted in the armed forces today. The actor enters as a so-called “buck private” because, as a recruiting official stated, “He doesn’t want to sell bonds…he wants to be a regular soldier.” Gable has requested assignment as an aerial gunner in the army air forces. His army physical was completed two days ago, but the location where he was enlisted today was kept secret to avoid undo attention from the actor’s fans. Where Gable will complete boot camp is not known at this time. To complete training as an aerial gunner, the actor must undergo instruction in ground and aerial skills and tactics.
