ODT TO CONTROL TRUCKS, CABS
Tires, Tubes, Gas Included
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Office of Defense Transportation (ODT) yesterday revealed it will take control of the nation’s commercial vehicles beginning November 15. Taxi cabs, busses, trucks, and other similar commercial vehicles will fall under the new controls, which include rationing of tires, tubes, gasoline, and accessories. The ODT stated the new controls are “…a drastic move to obtain further conservation of such equipment for war purposes.” The new controls are in addition to the regulations already in place for commercial vehicles, but do not result in operation of commercial vehicles by the government. Director of the ODT, Joseph B. Eastman, said “…few things are more essential to an all out war effort than to keep our commercial vehicles, public and private, in private service.”
