OLD CARS FALL UNDER OPA
To Target Bootleg Tires
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Office of Price Administration (OPA) today received the power to ration the supply of used automobiles. At the same time, the OPA stated it had present aim to use the new authority. The basic intent of the new power is to allow the OPA to block the sale of any used automobile that may be found shod with bootleg tires. Also announced today by the OPA, it has extended rationing allowance of new automobiles to taxicab companies that rent or lease cabs to their drivers, which were not previously covered under rationing of new automobiles. A certificate of war necessity from the Department of Defense Transportation is required for a taxicab company to be allotted a new automobile.
