ICE CREAM SLASHED
Also Push Against Bootleg Meat
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The War Food Administration (WFA) announced yesterday a thirty-five per cent cut in ice cream production. Claude R. Wickard of the administration stated this move is “…one of a series…” intended to shift milk supplies from luxury items to essential foodstuff, such as butter and cheese. The statement seemed to foreshadow further cuts in production of luxury food items. Also yesterday, the Office of Price Administration (OPA) announced an initiative to combat bootleg meat black markets. An OPA official stated, “Persistent reports have come in from all agricultural areas about black market operations…”. The OPA initiative is nationwide and targets those who violate price ceilings as well as unofficial, illegal slaughtering operations.
