WOMAN ARMY RECRUITING BEGINS
Women with Child Prohibited
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today marks the beginning of recruiting for officer-candidate school for the newly formed Women’s Army Air Corps (WAAC). All candidates must be between the ages of 21 and 45 and possess a high school diploma or its equivalent. Interested women may apply through June 4 at regular Army recruiting stations. However, the Army has warned regulations prohibit pregnant women from serving. Additionally, a woman who becomes pregnant during service must resign. She will be allowed to re-enlist after the birth by meeting the same qualifications of her original enlistment. The WAAC officer-candidate school will be held in Des Moines, Ia., beginning in mid July. The law establishing the WAAC went into effect on May 15 of this year.
