NATIONWIDE GAS RATIONING
Decision Expected by Next Week
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Donald M. Nelson, chairman of the War Production Board (WPB), yesterday announced he expected a final decision on implementing gasoline rationing nationwide would be made by next week. The statement came on the heels of the WPB’s review of the current state of rubber supply, which he described as “increasingly critical.” He went on to say the final decision may be made by the president or the president may choose to defer to the WPB. Senators from the Midwestern states expressed continued opposition to an extension of gas rationing beyond the Eastern Seaboard states where it is currently in effect. The weekly ration for Midwesterners will reportedly be five gallons per week, greater than the two gallons per week allotted on the East coast for A sticker holders.
